What is Go Green?
Go Green!“Going Green” generally refers to having a heightened awareness of using the Earth's resources more efficiently.
Environmental concerns are often represented by the color green and the term today includes efforts to conserve our natural resources, reduce our contributions to landfills and reduce pollution. Going green can be summarized by "reduce, reuse, and recycle.” Reduce waste, reuse what you can and recycle what you can't.
One of the easiest, quickest and practical tactics for going green is to look at your energy consumption as a source for potential savings. Most homeowners and businesses consume more energy than necessary. Going Green is about ideas to help you improve your existing home or office by making it more comfortable and energy efficient.
Going Green is smart and easy. The concept encourages a wide variety of energy strategies: commissioning, energy use monitoring, efficient design and construction, efficient appliances, systems, lighting and renewable energy.

Consider adopting these simple ideas to help reduce your energy consumption and save money.
  • Turn off your lights when not in use.
  • Close window blinds during times of direct sunlight.
  • Set your computer to sleep automatically when not in use.
  • Adjust / program your thermostat to reduce energy consumption overnight.
  • Replace your incandescent light bulbs with LED lighting.
  • Unplug adapters (transformers) when you’re not charging electronic devices such as cell phones, MP3 players, electronic book readers, etc.
  • Purchase ENERGY STAR equipment: Energy Star is a program that was started by the Environmental Protection Agency to compare similar appliances and their energy consumption while providing understandable data to consumers.  ENERGY STAR sanctioned products are usually eligible for utility rebate programs that can lower the cost of a product for consumers.

Benefits of Green

Green buildings with lower operating costs and better indoor environmental quality are more attractive to a growing group of corporate, public and individual buyers. Green features will increasingly enter into tenants' decisions about leasing space and into buyers' decisions about purchasing properties and homes.
U.S. Green Building CouncilGreen buildings are designed to have healthier, cleaner indoor environmental quality, which means health benefits for occupants. Green buildings are also demonstrating reduced recruitment and retention rates and increased productivity benefits for employers.
Green buildings cost less to operate and maintain. There are also tax benefits and incentives available for green buildings and green building strategies available.
